In May’s edition of The Hunt Monthly, we recap a month of growth, resilience and reward for the Sharks. From hard-fought contests against some of the competition’s strongest sides to back-to-back senior victories heading into the long weekend break, and upcoming social events – there is plenty to celebrate across the club.

SENIOR MATCHES RECAP

Round 4 we hosted the bloods at home, with Schramms Reserve bathed in sunshine on a fantastic winter’s Saturday. Our senior boys sadly had a long slog of a day as we had to battle the game out with one on the bench for the second half. We showed some terrific fight and resolve, and saw in patches throughout the day that our defensive system is improving, as is our ball movement. Warrandyte are ultra impressive, and we knew their running power and youth were going to be a big test. We lost the game but we went away from the match proud of the group for fighting the game out to the very end. Tommy McGowan was impressive up forward kicking 5 and Blake Pantas was huge in the midfield all day winning lots of ball and clearance. We continue to look to improve and the boys are continuously working hard on the track and gelling as a group.

Round 6 we welcomed premiership fancies Chirnside Park to Schramms Reserve. A side that has been strong in division four for some time who played in last years grand final. It may have taken a little longer than we had hoped, but we took some large steps in this game. We were toe to toe with a really good side for large parts of the game and if not for inaccurate kicking in the first ten minutes of the last quarter, the game may have been even closer. We went down by 19 points but were in for the fight and showed that our defensive system and ball movement can stack up with the best. Blake Pantas was huge all day in the midfield, racking up plenty of contested ball and Nick Komen was an absolute wall down back. We went away from the game feeling really excited that things were coming together.

Round 7 was our first away game for the seniors at Forest Hill. A proud club that is going through a bit of a rebuild, with lots of new faces. We knew it was going to be a test and we put our best foot forward from early in the first quarter. Donning the leagues yellow clash jumpers, we jumped out to a 7 goal half time lead and kept the foot on the accelerator in the second half. Our first win for season 2026 and first win since July 2024. It was so awesome to see so many happy faces in the rooms post game and a big moment for the club. Ethan Robinson was a ball magnet on the wing all afternoon, breaking lines and driving us forward. Mitch Wilkinson was a bull all day on ball winning clearance after clearance and Blake Williams is showing why he’s such a huge recruit for us. For a big guy his skills are unreal and is a real presence inside 50 and in the ruck. A great day for the club!

Round 8 we ventured out to Nunawading, to take on the lions, who again, are going through a club rebuild after coming out of recess. A credit to them for getting themselves out of recess also, a huge effort and we wish them well moving forward. We played some good footy in patches, but believe we left some effort out there throughout the day. We ran away with a 130 point win and we now head into the kings birthday bye with two wins in a row, and some momentum building. Tommy McGowan booted 14 goals in a huge effort up forward and Craig Giffin is quickly becoming a favourite amongst the group. Always doing a job down back as a leader and was awesome on the weekend with lots of drive off half back. Thank you to everyone who came out to the past two away games. Our crowds have been awesome.
